Warning |
A sink water heater consumes as much as this much air. |
| ● |
A sink water heater requires about four times the amount of air consumed by a stove burner. An inadequate supply of fresh air could lead to a dangerous situation of incomplete combustion. |
Caution Beware of especially the following. |
| ● |
Inadequate ventilation may lead to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning or sometimes even death. When using a sink water heater, you must turn on the ventilation fan or the range hood fan, or open a window to let the exhaust out (even during the use of a heater or air conditioner). |
| ● |
Never use a sink water heater to supply hot water for bath tubs, laundry machines, showering, or shampooing. Such practices are very dangerous. |
| ● |
The exhaust outlet may clog with dust or dirt and thus requires periodic inspection and maintenance (use a cloth to wipe it clean). |

Caution |
| ● |
Any of the following conditions may be an indication of incomplete combustion. Immediately turn off the appliance, and promptly contact the retailer where the appliance was purchased or the nearest Tokyo Gas or Enesta-Enefit office. |
| ★ |
When the heat exchanger is dirty or clogged as shown in Photo 1R (the photo on the right) (Turn off the gas and examine from above.) |
| ★ |
Soot buildup on the hood |
| ★ |
When you smell an odor or when your eyes hurt |
| ★ |
When the flame goes out while your appliance is in use |

When the flame appears red as shown in Photo 2R (the photo on the right). |

We recommend that you replace any gas appliances without an incomplete-combustion-prevention device with those equipped with such a device. |
| ● |
Post-marketing actions on open-type sink water heaters with an incomplete combustion prevention device (without a re-ignition prevention function)
As of February 2007, customers who purchased an open-type sink water heater with an incomplete combustion prevention device, but without a re-ignition prevention function sold commercially or under the Tokyo Gas brand will receive mail from Tokyo Gas to advise them of the precautions for use. Those who request an inspection can receive the service free of charge.

When using a gas heater that uses an indoor air supply, such as an infrared heater or a fan heater, you must allow fresh air into the room periodically (about once every 30 minutes). |
Caution Precautions for using wire-mesh heaters |
| If you own a wire-mesh heater |
| ● |
Make sure there is ventilation (ventilation fan or window) when using such an appliance. |
| ● |
Inadequate ventilation may lead to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning or sometimes even death. |
| ● |
If the flame goes out while a gas appliance is in use, immediately turn off the appliance and promptly contact the retailer where the appliance was purchased or the nearest Tokyo Gas or Enesta-Enefit office. The appliance needs to be checked. |

| ● |
Servicing your heater before the start of each winter season is recommended.
Contact a gas appliance retail store to request maintenance services. |
| ● |
Do not dry your laundry on a heater. |
| ● |
Clean the red-hot surface (wire-mesh) regularly. |

| Bathtub water heaters/large water heaters (with 1 chimney) |
| For indoor installation, an exhaust duct (chimney) and an air supply and exhaust vent are required. |
Caution |
| ● |
Periodically perform a smoke test to check for any backflow of exhaust when the heater is in use. |
| ● |
Any unpleasant smell that you notice while taking a bath or shower may be a sign of exhaust backflow. This can be investigated by conducting a smoke test. |
Smoke test procedure
Verify ignition. Wait for three minutes then light a stick of incense or a cigarette to generate smoke. |
Warning Beware of especially the following. |
Never turn on a ventilation fan while using the shower or reheating the water when taking a bath. The ventilation fan will create an exhaust backflow and lead to a lack of fresh air. The resulting incomplete combustion may cause accidental carbon monoxide poisoning and sometimes even death. |
Never use a sink water heater and a bathtub water heater at the same time. |
Do not block the air supply vent. |

Caution |
| ● |
In most cases, frying oil fires or grill fires occur because the heat was left on inadvertently. Never leave the stove unattended when frying or grilling food. If you have to answer the doorbell or a phone call or otherwise leave the kitchen, make sure you turn off the heat first. |
| ● |
Never use any accessories that are not supplied by the manufacturer because doing so may cause incomplete combustion. (For instance, the so-called energy-saving trivet sold on the market for use with a tabletop gas stove) |
